What drives someone to climb into the cockpit of a flying death trap to test dangerous aircraft that most men were afraid to fly? What drives someone to rebel against social convention and gender roles to risk their life for two thirds of the pay of their male counterparts?

Joan of Arc, Divine Defender

“I am not afraid; I was born to do this”. Fiercely courageous and relentless to the end of her earthly life, this sculpture captures Joan’s indomitable spirit as she emerges from the earthly pyre. Her armor is restored, as she rises victoriously towards Heaven. Ascending from the flames of destruction, Joan’s transcendent pose reflects both surrender and victory. Her expression radiates a resplendent beauty, evoking a sense of hopefulness and expectancy that comes from a knowing that her spirit will be one with God. Although they burned her body, they could not burn her soul.

Mary Magdalene

This sculpture depicts Mary Magdalene at the tomb of Jesus on the morning of the
Resurrection. She arrives expecting to find the body of Christ, only to discover that the stone
has been rolled away and the tomb is empty. Overcome with grief and confusion, Mary believes that someone has taken the body of the Lord. As she weeps outside the tomb, Mary encounters the risen Christ but does not immediately recognize Him. Believing him to be the gardener, she asks where the body of Jesus has been taken. It is only when Christ calls her by name “Mary” that she recognizes her Lord. In that instant, grief gives way to recognition and despair to joy. Jesus entrusts Mary with a mission: to go to His disciples and share what she has witnessed. She becomes the first to proclaim to them the extraordinary news of the Resurrection: “I have seen the Lord”. This sculpture captures Mary in the moment of transformation and urgency. Her movement shows her being propelled forward to carry Christ’s message to the disciples. Her graceful figure is intentionally contrasted with the rugged tomb. On the reverse, the burial cloth and Sudarium remain within the empty tomb, tangible signs that Christ has risen and that death has been overcome. The Chi-Rho carved on the reverse is a Christogram representing Christ.

“Fly Girl” is a tribute to the early icons of women’s aviation. Women who dared to jump into ramshackled open-air cockpit of single propeller planes in order to realize their dreams of flying. Airracing, barnstorming, stunt flying, all the while braving the way for other women to follow unconventional paths.

America’s first female codebreaker. Her coat features over 2,400 embossed characters forming words describing her extraordinary life and accomplishments. All of the words have been encrypted, requiring the viewer to study the piece in order to uncover Elizabeth’s life story.

During her lifetime, Elizebeth received very little recognition for her heroic contributions to national security. The time has come to honor her with this sculpture.

Her expansive wings allow her to hover above her charge while still being able to whisper in her ear. Their forms are slightly entwined as the human listens intently, absorbing her angel’s wisdom and sage advice.

Saint Francis of Assisi

Saint Francis of Assisi has been depicted countless times, often surrounded by animals and nature. While his love for all of God’s creation was an important part of his life, it grew from something much deeper – his profound love of Christ and his desire to live the Gospel through humility, poverty, and service to others. My intent was to bring Francis to life, creating a presence that immediately conveys warmth and gentleness. I want viewers to feel welcomed by him – a chance to be embraced by love and non-judgement, a respite from a harsh world. I choose to depict him smiling, but spent a great deal of time working on his eyes. I wanted his gaze to communicate compassion, forgiveness and the peace of someone whose life was completely centered on Christ.
