Virginia Hall

Virginia Hall, America’s greatest spy of WWII, faced
considerable obstacles besides the danger of working as
an operator behind enemy lines in German-occupied
France during WWII.  Her dream had been to work for
the U.S. State Dept as a foreign service officer.  The
door was slammed shut when she lost her leg in a
hunting accident as amputees were not eligible to serve
in that capacity. They say “when one door closes,
another door opens.”  Clearly, it was not in Virginia’s
paradigm to wait for something magical to happen.  She
found a door and willed it to open.
Virginia’s life was inspirational.  She looked beyond her
perceived disadvantages and turn them into
opportunities for victory.  For Virginia the goal was
greater than the hurdle; the mission was more important
than the accolades.
