Fly Girl was designed to inspire women and girls everywhere to believe that anything is possible.

- Laurie Barton

Fly Girl, a work by acclaimed Northern Virginia-based artist Laurie Barton, is a tribute to the early icons of women’s aviation. This gracefully rendered sculpture of a 1920’s female pilot celebrates women who realized their dreams of flying despite the enormous danger inherent in early aviation and the deeply ingrained battle to fight discrimination and push their way out of the confined roles placed on women during the early 20th century.

In order to offer the sculpture Fly Girl to a broader public, Barton has created limited editions of the work. After casting, each sculpture is hand-painted and finally numbered and signed by the artist. Due to these finishing touches, every piece is, in a sense, unique.

10% of each sale will be donated to support the mission of Women in Aviation International (WAI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to the encouragement and advancement of girls and women in all aviation/aerospace career field and interests.

WAI provided year-round resources to its nearly 14,000 members around the world with scholarships, education sessions and professional development seminars, and youth outreach events such as Girls in Aviation Day.
